You could also go to Lake Olive since you're here at Lake Clayton; it's nearby, and if you need a site to stay Lodge at Crooked Lake is a brilliant choice. If you're here at Lake Clayton, you could pop by Hay Creek, and get drenched paddling on St. Croix River. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors enjoyable stuff the area next to Lake Clayton has to offer. Going for a hike on  
   the Minnesota-Wisconsin Boundary State Trail is always a pleasant adventure. There's so much to do here at Lake Clayton that you need to camp here for a while, Paint Rock Spring Campground is a great spot for that.
Dry warm beds await you at Best Western Northwoods Lodge. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Lake Clayton has to offer, you can camp at Old Logging Trail Campground. All through the warmest time of the year at Lake Clayton temperatures
 
               are frequently in the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. Throughout the wintertime highs are typically in the 10's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Lake Clayton dip into the-10's. There are good spots to look at along the Markville Snowmobile Trail.
The amount of rainfall that falls at Lake Clayton is close to the national average; the month of June is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month is February. This lake is so wonderful. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Kettle River, and Clayton Lake Dam is a scenic place, without doubt worth checking out.
