Calf Lake is right by the South Lake Portage, and Calf Lake is pleasant enough to spend more than a day at, Cascade River Campground is a pleasant local campground. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay The Mountain Inn is a perfect choice. Whohoo, so many enjoyable things in one place! Calf Lake is great! Nearby lakes? Sure, Bull Lake is in close proximity to Calf Lake, and if you're here, do take a visit to Brule Bay. A great location for whitewater

This lake is so wonderful. In case you don’t have a problem getting
soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on Cascade River, and a magnificent place to camp here at Calf Lake is Devil Lake Campground. A common amount of rain falls here at Calf Lake; most of the rain falls during August, and February is the month with the least moisture.

I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
