Brule Mountain is trouble-free to spot from Bower Trout Lake, obviously you could also have a look at Abita Lake if you're here; it's not far at all. There's so much to do here at Bower Trout Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Two Island Lake Campground is a good place for that, and if you need a place to stay Super 8 Grand Marais is a tremendous choice. This lake is so wonderful. Get your pulse rate up on the fine whitewater of Devil Track River.

| | Bower Trout Lake is a good location of normal precipitation; the wettest month of the year is frequently August, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is February.

the neighborhood of Bower Trout Lake and is always a pleasure to check out. The Stairway Portage offers hiking at its best; a lake close by is Ram Lake.
Summer brings highs in the 70's to Bower Trout Lake. Once the sun is down
it dips down to the 50's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 10's, and night lows at Bower Trout Lake all through the wintertime frequently drop into the-10's. This lake is so wonderful. Take a hike on the Long Portage, and whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Cascade River.

 | I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |

Echo is a nice lake to stop and drop a line when in the Schroeder tofte area. It is just up the road from Nine mile lake campground and has an easy to catch supply of small trout. Trout Lake approx 14 Northwest of Grand Marais,MN and then 4 miles east on #140 (Trout Lake Road)to the lake. Mink and Kimball lakes are also accessed by this road. BOATERS BEWARE - the public landing is a ''carry in landing'' meaning no trailered launches here. If you prefer you can launch at Trout Lake Resort for a fee of $5 to $10 but their landing is shallow as well and very rocky. NO BIG BOATS can get in and that's the way the folks at the resort like it. A boat with a ten h.p. will do the trick. In fact the folks at Trout Lake Resort will rent you one if they are not reserved by the resort guests for ~$35 for 1/2 day. The like is super clear and boasts lake trout and rainbows. We caught one rainbow on a lazy fishing/swimming expedition and another boat on the lake caught a small laker and one rainbow. This lake would be real fun for trout in the spring when they are near the surface but they can be found by trolling in 20 to 30' along the shore lines in late summer as well as the deeper spots.... |
