If you like lakes and you're in this part of Minnesota you can check out Black Lake. This lake is so wonderful. You can run the rapids of Little Fork River near Black Lake, and a great site to camp here at Black Lake is Vermilion Motel and RV Park. Summer brings highs in the 70's to Black Lake while nighttime lows are frequently in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 10's, and winter nights come with lows in the-10's to Black Lake. | | be in a lake visiting mood you can always explore nearby Elbow Lake. A good close by hotel is Elbow Lake Lodge, and Head of the Lakes Bay is relatively close. The Taconite Trail offers hiking at its best, and after a long day outdoors Americinn - Orr, Mn is a great place to spend a night or two. A common amount of rainfall falls here at Black Lake; the month of June is the wettest with most of the rain while February is typically the driest month. | |

A good site for whitewater paddling near Black Lake is Vermilion River, and as expected, this is a great area for people who like lakes, Susan Lake is a lake in close proximity. Be careful coming to Black Lake, you might not ever
wanna go back home again. Camping at Wakemup Bay Campground is always a brilliant experience, and why not take a little journey to Hoodoo Creek while you're here.

Echo Lake
 | 16 miles away ...vailable for rent were the spring bay cabins which are not in service but still standing to date. Now there are two resorts on the lake and a public campground. Echo lake is fabulous for jumbo bluegill and the colors of these fish are remarkable. Back in the late seventies when my father stayed at spring bay resort, my father caught the 13th bluegill ever reprted to be taken out of the lake. Al Johnson, owner of the resort at that time kept a notebook of any bluegills/sunfish ever caught due to the fact that the species was not native. The first time I went to this lake was back in 2000. I casted my nightcrawler harness out and slowly reeled my bait and felt a nice tug, thinking I had a bass on I came to the surprise to have the biggest bluegill hooked I've ever caught in my life. After measuring the brilliant, blue and purple colored gill I recorded that it was 11 inches long. The fight the gill gave was that of a good two pound black bass.
