A pair of loons nest in the narrows, and 8 pair of Canadian Gesse nest in the wetland on the west side of the upper lake, raising aproximently 30 young each year. The Beavor and Otters are also in heaven on this lake. It has good fishing for Northern, Bass, Blue Gills , and Crappies. It is what is called a coffee water lake being very dark in color, causing the fish to be beautiful. Three Island Lake is a nearby lake that you could visit, and camping at Hamilton's Fox Lake Campground is always a delightful experience. Near Black Lake you stumble on the Carter Lake Trail which is a magnificent hiking trail, and camping is available at Balsam Beach Resort and Camp. There is a good hiking trail in the neighborhood of Black Lake called the Meadow Lake Trail System;       if you get bored of Black Lake you could also explore nearby Range Line Lake. There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Buena Vista, and there are plenty of people from Bemidji here. Fox Lake Dam is a wonderful site close to Black Lake, and Americinn - Bemidji, Mn is a magnificent site to get some rest. Black Lake is pretty arid generally; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and February is the month with the least                  moisture. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Webster Lake Trail System is always a perfect adventure. So many enjoyable things to do here at Black Lake, too wonderful to be true. Enjoy a round of golf at Castle Highlands Golf Course not far from Black Lake, and dry warm beds await you at Holiday Inn Express Bemidji, Mn. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Black Lake while overnight lows are frequently in the 50's.
