South Lake Portage which is a magnificent hiking trail, and East Bay Suites is a good place to get some rest. There's so much to do here at Birch Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Gateway-hungry Jack Lodge is a delightful
place for that. During the summer months at Birch Lake highs are usually in the 70's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. Highs during the wintertime are commonly in the 10's, and night lows through the wintertime for Birch Lake tend to be in the-10's.

 | Echo is a nice lake to stop and drop a line when in the Schroeder tofte area. It is just up the road from Nine mile lake campground and has an easy to catch supply of small trout. Two Island Lake Campground
 | 10 miles away I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
