It's always fun to stop by Belly Lake. All through the warm months here at Belly Lake, high temperatures frequently get into the 70's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 10's, and nighttime lows at Belly Lake all through the wintertime frequently descend into the-10's. This lake is so wonderful. Camping is available at Devil Lake Campground. There are great places to look at

at Cascade River Campground is always a brilliant experience; don't leave Belly Lake without first going for a hike along the Height of Land Portage.
Going for a hike on the North Shore State Trail is always a pleasant adventure,
and whitewater paddling is delightful on Cascade River. This lake is so wonderful. You get a good view of Eagle Mountain from Belly Lake, and hey, Hand Creek is a magnificent local stream. The amount of precipitation that falls at
Belly Lake is close to the national average; during the month of August you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is February.

Two Island Lake Campground
 | I have only been there in the winter waiting for the mushers to come through (for the Beargease Marathon), it is where I want my ashes to be. I missed one year of the Beargrease race (1998) but the next year I was there at Two Island it was a full moon and it was snowing at the same time, could see down the trail like it was daylight but it was snowing....that was my sign...like I didn't fall in love with it before...this is a beautiful place, small camground but nice in the summer. jkf... |
