Near Ames Lake you hit upon the Spur Lake Trail System which is a wonderful hiking trail, of course you could also stop at Cole Lake if you're here; it's not far at all. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Turtle Mound Trail is always a great adventure, and Ames Lake is not the only spot close by, Beaver Lake is a close by       lake. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Ames Lake has to offer, you can camp at Noma Lake Campground and Picnic Area.
