place for that. This lake is so wonderful. On a delightful day at Wildwood Lake you can take a hike along the Lauterman Trail, and the slopes of Ski Brule are so inviting noone can resist.

The original emigrant settlers of the area during the middle 1800’s were attracted to its virgin forests and the rich mineral content of the ground. That untouched beauty remains only in a few unique areas left over from bygone days. Paint River Hills is truly one of those areas.
The highlight of Paint River Hills Campground is its hiking trail along the Paint River. The loop trail, about half-mile long, winds through and around the rock bluffs and hills that form the banks of the Paint River and for years has been the playground of local youngsters. The name “Paint River Hills” is the term used by locals to describe the location of the campground. Youngsters have named other areas such as Peeper Hollow, Big Rock Candy Mountain, White Pine Lookout, Fairy Tale Swamp, Rock Fort, Thistle Swamp and Camel Back Lookout.
As the trail leads you to several lookouts down the river identification signs greet you naming trees in native Ojibwa as well as Latin and English. You will wind through an old white cedar stand and see rare quartz rock outcroppings. You ... |
