You       can run the rapids of Sturgeon River - West Branch close to Townsend Lake, and why not camp at Sparrow Rapids Campground since you're here at Townsend Lake. There are other places here than Townsend Lake, for example Davidson Lakes, and a perfect site for whitewater paddling is Ontonagon River - Middle Branch. For the duration of the long summer days at Townsend Lake highs are mostly in the 70's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. Daytime                  highs through the winter are in the 10's, and night lows through the winter for Townsend Lake tend to be in the 0's.
