If you come at the right time of year, Escanaba River - East Branch offers some glorious whitewater, and Shag Lake is brilliant       enough to spend more than a day at, Horseshoe Lake Camp Grounds is a brilliant local campground. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always go to close by Little Shag Lake, and you'll meet a lot of people from Marquette here. This lake is so wonderful. Hit the slopes at Marquette nearby, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Escanaba River - Middle Branch. A fine place to camp here at Shag Lake is Gitche Gumee Campground and RV. Summertime highs                  at Shag Lake generally tend to be in the 70's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. Throughout the winter the highs are mostly in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Shag Lake.
