There are some good whitewater spots on Michigamme River; the wonderful folks of Iron Mountain like to hang out nearby. Through the warm days of summer highs here at Porterfield Lake reach the 70's, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Throughout the winter the highs are mostly in the 20's, and       night lows during the wintertime for Porterfield Lake tend to be in the-10's. This is a glorious neighborhood for folks who like lakes. Big Lick Lake is a lake around here, and camping at Michigamme Shores Campground is always a great experience. This lake is so wonderful. Getting to Wilson Creek from Porterfield Lake is simple, and if you came to camp Silver Lake Resort is a wonderful place to do that. Porterfield Lake is a good site of common precipitation;                  June is the month that gets the most rain; February on the other hand is the driest.
