Near Palmer Lake you stumble on the Holyoke Trail which is a delightful hiking trail, and Palmer Lake is a good place to visit for more than one day, Horseshoe Lake Camp Grounds is a good place to camp nearby. Summit Mountain is a peak you can       see from Palmer Lake, and not far from Palmer Lake you'll come across Schoolhouse Lake which is a wonderful lake.
