Lake Gitchegumee is right by       the McKenzie Ski Trail, and there's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at close by Caberfae Peaks. The amount of rain that falls at Lake Gitchegumee is close to the national average; most of the rain falls through September, and February is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Caberfae Way Snowmobile Trail; do take a hike on the Lincoln Mills Snowmobile Trail. This is a popular place for folks from                  Traverse City; if you came for an overnight stay Mesick Trailer Park is a perfect site to camp. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Pine River, and East Branch Wheeler Creek is in the vicinity of Lake Gitchegumee and is always a bliss to explore. Man, is there a lot of fun stuff to do in the vicinity of Lake Gitchegumee. There are some wonderful whitewater spots on Boardman River. Lakes are magnificent; Fish Lake is a lake that's in close proximity to Lake Gitchegumee. This lake is so wonderful.
