Sure, Fish Lake is close by, and there are some good whitewater spots on Pine River. Lake Gitchegumee is a good spot of normal precipitation; throughout the month of September you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is February. Econo Lodge Traverse City is a delightful spot to get some rest. You'll need more than a day to discover everything       Lake Gitchegumee has to offer, you can camp at Traverse City Koa. Go for a hike on the Caberfae Way Snowmobile Trail, and magnificent skiing awaits you at Caberfae Peaks. So much cool stuff right next door to Lake Gitchegumee, truly fantastic. There's so much to do here at Lake Gitchegumee that you need to camp here for a while, Mesick Trailer Park is a great location for that, and this is a popular location for people from Traverse City. This lake                  is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the McKenzie Ski Trail, and do stop at East Branch Wheeler Creek if you're here at Lake Gitchegumee. There's fine hiking along the Lincoln Mills Snowmobile Trail, and if you come at the right time of year, Boardman River offers some delightful whitewater. Carpenter Lake is a magnificent lake near Lake Gitchegumee, and dry warm beds await you at Fairfield Inn By Marriott Traverse City. During the warmest time of the year at Lake Gitchegumee temperatures are regularly in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's.
