Ontonagon River has a wonderful whitewater paddling spot close by, and in close proximity to Hay Lake you come across a golf course called Gateway Golf Club. Hay Lake is a good spot to visit for more than one day, Pike Campground is a good spot to camp nearby, and not far from Hay Lake you'll come across Glimmerglass Lake which is a beautiful lake. Hay Lake gets a typical amount of annual       precipitation; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest of the months is February. Paddling on Ontonagon River - Middle Branch is so much fun; there are other spots here than Hay Lake, for example Elsie Lake. Man, is there a lot of exciting things to do in the neighborhood of Hay Lake. Maple Campground is a perfect local campground, and if you need a site to stay Settle Inn & Stes Eagle River is a perfect choice. Good hiking                  is available along the Alligator Eye Trail, and Best Western Derby Inn is a great place to get some rest. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Hay Lake. All through the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 50's.
