It's always fun to stop by Gun Lake. An average amount of rain falls at Gun Lake; most of the rain falls during September, and the driest month is February. Lakes? Sure, Payne Lake is nearby, and after a long day outdoors Baymont Inn & Suites Grand Rapids SW/Byron Center is a magnificent location to spend a night or two. And that's not all you can do here at Gun Lake. If you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Mullenhurst Golf Course is nearby;

Summertime at Gun Lake comes with high temperatures in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 50's. Highs during the wintertime are generally in the 30's; night lows at Gun Lake through the wintertime typically plunge into the 10's. A great place to camp here at Gun Lake is Engelwood Campground, and drift down the rapids of Kalamazoo River in a kayak.

Gun Lake is magnificent enough to spend more than a day at, Parkside Park is a magnificent local campground, and a brilliant close by hotel is Comfort Inn Plainwell. This lake is so wonderful. Not far from Gun Lake, you'll find Long Lake which is a beautiful lake, and you can never get enough of the great skiing at Bittersweet.

Bittersweet

Bittersweet has enormous snow-making capacity and is consistently the first to open in SW Michigan. Their vertical is only 350 ft, but that's about 100 more than any other resort in SW Michigan. As noted, their lift system is impressive, particularly the high speed detachable quad, but lines can get a little long on late December weekends. Their terrain park has a good variety of boxes, jumps, etc. Very friendly people....Yea you guys rock i love the snow...Ahh yes, Bittersweet Ski Area... Michigan skiing at it's very best. The drops in these part of the country are not that impressive but I think Bittersweet makes the most of it. I do recommend this ski area.... |

Fisk is a great lake to fish on. You must have a kayak or canoe to gain access through the channel that runs between Reeds and Fisk. Put your boat in on the West side of lakeside across from the dock at Reed's lake next to the municipal building. Have Fun... |

It is not very big, but all of the employees are cool and you never have to wait in line to get on the lift. They sometimes seem to overestimate the amount of snow that they have also. I sometimes wonder if they actually measure the snowpiles that have been plowed in the parking lot instead of what is actually on the hill.... |
