It's always fun to stop by Great Bear Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Fireside Campground is a nice local campground, and Bittersweet is a very popular ski area close at hand. Lots of people from Allegan come to Great Bear Lake, and you can hit the slopes at Timber Ridge in the neighborhood. The amount of rainfall that falls at Great Bear Lake is close to the national average; during the month of September you get the most rain around here, and February on

| | the other hand is the driest. If you came for an overnight stay Spring Valley Recreation Area is a great place to camp, and Econo Lodge Paw Paw is a fine site to get some rest. After a long day outdoors Comfort Inn & Suites is a good spot to spend a night or two, and why not a little side tour to Haven And Max Lake Drain. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this site. upon a golf course called Jeptha Lake Golf Course. A lake nearby is Lake Fourteen. During the summertime highs here at Great Bear Lake reach the 80's, and the overnight is quite chillier of course, regularly in the 50's. Daytime
highs through the winter are in the 20's, and night lows during the winter for Great Bear Lake tend to be in the 10's.

I sometimes wonder if they actually measure the snowpiles that have been plowed in the parking lot instead of what is actually on the hill.... |

Bittersweet
 | 19 miles away Bittersweet has enormous snow-making capacity and is consistently the first to open in SW Michigan. Their vertical is only 350 ft, but that's about 100 more than any other resort in SW Michigan. As noted, their lift system is impressive, particularly the high speed detachable quad, but lines can get a little long on late December weekends. Their terrain park has a good variety of boxes, jumps, etc. Very friendly people....Yea you guys rock i love the snow...Ahh yes, Bittersweet Ski Area... Michigan skiing at it's very best. The drops in these part of the country are not that impressive but I think Bittersweet makes the most of it. I do recommend this ski area.... |
