During the warm months, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Government Lake. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are usually in the 20's; overnight lows during the wintertime for Government Lake tend to be in the 10's. If you need a place to stay Holiday Inn BIG RAPIDS is a great choice. Ivan's Campground       & Cabins is a nice local campground, and swamps don’t sound that magnificent but Carpenter Marsh close to Government Lake is reasonably magnificent. Government Lake is a good place of typical rain; during the month of September you get the most rain around here while February is generally the driest month. While you're here at Government Lake you can take a hike along the Ward Hills Snowmobile Trail, and let's not forget Baldwin River which is a stream that                  you may stumble upon while you're here. This lake is so wonderful. On a good day at Government Lake you can take a hike along the North Country National Scenic Trail, and Cashion Lake is a wonderful lake close by. There's just no way anybody can get bored here at Government Lake.
