The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Ski Brule; a gorgeous lake like Lake Sixteen is a tremendous place to stop by. If you came for an overnight stay Iron River Koa Kampground is a great place to camp; Best Western Baraga Lakeside Inn is a delightful location to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. Lakes are such serene sites, why not stop at Lake Nine in close proximity to Lake Fifteen; the snow is great at Brule Mountain.

| | Get yourself into a kayak and hit Paint River. At Lake Fifteen through the warm days of summer highs are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Lake Fifteen. Not sufficient hours in a day to enjoy this location. The amount of rainfall that falls at Lake Fifteen is close to the national average; most of the rain falls through August while February is frequently the driest month.

The original emigrant settlers of the area during the middle 1800’s were attracted to its virgin forests and the rich mineral content of the ground. That untouched beauty remains only in a few unique areas left over from bygone days. Paint River Hills is truly one of those areas.
The highlight of Paint River Hills Campground is its hiking trail along the Paint River. The loop trail, about half-mile long, winds through and around the rock bluffs and hills that form the banks of the Paint River and for years has been the playground of local youngsters. The name “Paint River Hills” is the term used by locals to describe the location of the campground. Youngsters have named other areas such as Peeper Hollow, Big Rock Candy Mountain, White Pine Lookout, Fairy Tale Swamp, Rock Fort, Thistle Swamp and Camel Back Lookout.
