Thunder Bay Resort is a splendid campground nearby, and there are some wonderful whitewater spots on Ocqueoc River. An average amount of rainfall falls at Ess Lake; most of the rain falls through August, and February meanwhile is the driest month. This lake is so       wonderful. Do stop by Gassel Lake right next door to Ess Lake, it's a picturesque lake, and getting to Grass Creek from Ess Lake is uncomplicated. Here at Ess Lake there are plenty of folks from Alpena. At Ess Lake during the summer highs are in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 50's.
