Michigamme Shores Campground is a wonderful local campground, and a nice nearby hotel is Best Western Baraga Lakeside Inn. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Michigamme River, and do explore Big Bear Lake, it's a gorgeous lake. This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Peshekee River offers some magnificent whitewater, and if you're here, you could also pop by striking Lake Vedder. From a rain

Peshekee River
I have loved the Peshekee for over 63 years, watching rocks appear and disappear with the seasons. It's a special day when kayakers also appear, usually in early spring. I'm afraid the time for good kayaking is over for this year. Sorry! By the way, there are plenty of good motels in Marquette. ...
Craig Lake
This was a great time. A buddy of mine and I grabbed the canoe, tent, and fishing gear and headed out for a week. We overpacked, which made the reasonable portage quite difficult, though. After all the work, we were rewarded with a secluded island camp site about 30 minutes paddle from where we put in. I recommend this lake to anyone that likes to camp or fish. We caught a large number of Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass while we were there, and were quite sad to leave. However, Bring bug repellent.....The horseflies during the day strike fear into the hearts of most mortal men and you can skin the mosquitos to make a coat....

16 miles away How do you do all this Mountain Lake stuff with it being on Huron Mountain Club property? Do you have connections or are you an adventurous trespasser? [No I'm not a HMC sympathizer or informant]...
Sunson Lake
19 miles away Spent many a summer day here as a kid. The lake is crystal clear and great for swimming. Since it's so small, it doesn't take long to warm up after the spring thaw....This lake is amazing! I love to swim here,...
