Morrow Lake is a nearby lake that you could go to, and why not head up to Bittersweet and strap some skis to your feet. East Lake beyond doubt is in the middle of a beautiful outdoors paradise. There are plenty of folks from Kalamazoo-Portage here at East Lake; East Lake is perfect enough to spend more than a day at, Coldbrook County Park is a perfect local campground. For the duration of the summer months at East Lake highs are generally in the 80's while nighttime lows

| | are ordinarily in the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 30's, and during the dark hours in the winter at East Lake temperatures dip to the 10's.
This lake is so wonderful. Get drenched paddling on Kalamazoo River; camping at Oak Shores Resort Campground is always a good experience. While you're here at East Lake, you could also stop by delightful Long Lake, and if you need a place to stay Econo Lodge Kalamazoo is a great choice. East | |

Hampton Lake
| Can the general public access the lake or is it private for Greenspire residents?...Hampton lake is a public lake in Portage south of Centre street, about a 1/3 of a mile east of US 131. It does not have a public access, I'm not even sure gas powered boats are allowed, but they're not needed because the lake is not very big. But it is spring fed and DNR stocked so it is very clean and very good fishing. I live in Greenspire Apartments which is partially on the lake and my roommate and I fish Hampton lake often. Row boats are available to rent in the office. ... |
Bittersweet

Bittersweet has enormous snow-making capacity and is consistently the first to open in SW Michigan. Their vertical is only 350 ft, but that's about 100 more than any other resort in SW Michigan. As noted, their lift system is impressive, particularly the high speed detachable quad, but lines can get a little long on late December weekends. Their terrain park has a good variety of boxes, jumps, etc. Very friendly people....Yea you guys rock i love the snow...Ahh yes, Bittersweet Ski Area... Michigan skiing at it's very best. The drops in these part of the country are not that impressive but I think Bittersweet makes the most of it. I do recommend this ski area.... |

It is not very big, but all of the employees are cool and you never have to wait in line to get on the lift. They sometimes seem to overestimate the amount of snow that they have also. I sometimes wonder if they actually measure the snowpiles that have been plowed in the parking lot instead of what is actually on the hill.... |

Swiss Valley is a great place to ski or snowboard, dedicated to keeping the terrain interesting and excellently groomed. Snowmaking and deicated staff also provide the best kept terrain parks in southwest Michigan. The facilities offer a full service restaurant with food, spirits and live enteratinment most weekends, a cafeteria, group gathering areas and a separate learning area.
Swiss Valley also has very affordable learn to ski and snowboard programs for the entire family....
