     Coombs Lake is a good location to visit for more than one day, Paradise Lodge Resort is a good location to camp nearby; why not a little side tour to Truax Creek. That right there is a lot already, but it goes on; Coombs Lake has it all. Going for a hike along the Devils Lake Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region, and after a long day outdoors Best Western Of Alpena is a wonderful place to spend a night or two. Summer at Coombs Lake arrives  
   with high temperatures in the 70's; the nighttime is a bit cooler of course, generally in the 50's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 20's, and overnight lows in the 0's for Coombs Lake. This lake is so wonderful. A splendid close by hotel is Days Inn Alpena, and Fletcher Pond is a nearby lake that you could take a look at.
Hiking along the Norway Ridge Trail is magnificent fun; while you're here, you could also explore stunning Beaver
 
               Lake. The annual precipitation here at Coombs Lake is about average; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
You'll need more than a day to discover everything Coombs Lake has to offer, you can camp at Thunder Bay Resort, and you'll most likely meet some folks from Alpena here.

I have fished this lake for bluegills and have had great success. Some of the bluegills were 9 1/2 inches long. The water is very clear requiring 2 to 4 pound test line. Use half crawler with a small hook, #6, with a small split shot or at times no weight. Fish the deeper water by drifting until you find the fish then anchor. There are largemouth bass in this lake but they run undersize at around 11 to 12 inches. I used an electric motor to get around. The lake is small enough that you can row with your oars. During the spawning season,mid June, I fished the shoreline around the lake and caught the gills on their spawning beds. I have limited out many days fishing this lake with some nice size bluegills. I hand launched a boat at the camp ground there which charges a daily fee and parked in the parking lot....
