Chicagon Lake is a very beautiful lake in beautiful surroundings. Be careful coming to Chicagon Lake, you might not ever want to go home again. Near Chicagon Lake you find the Lauterman Trail which is a nice hiking trail, and Indian Lake is a nearby lake that you could check out. Brule Mountain is a very popular ski area around here, and you can run the rapids of Paint River. Take a little spree to Wagner Creek if you're here at Chicagon Lake. There's so much

| | to do here at Chicagon Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Iron River Koa Kampground is a pleasant place for that. This lake is so wonderful. An average amount of precipitation falls at Chicagon Lake; all through the month of August you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is February. The original emigrant settlers of the area during the middle 1800’s were attracted to its virgin forests and the rich mineral content of the ground. That untouched beauty remains only in a few unique areas left over from bygone days. Paint River Hills is truly one of those areas.
The highlight of Paint River Hills Campground is its hiking trail along the Paint River. The loop trail, about half-mile long, winds through and around the rock bluffs and hills that form the banks of the Paint River and for years has been the playground of local youngsters. The name “Paint River Hills” is the term used by locals to describe the location of the campground. Youngsters have named other areas such as Peeper Hollow, Big Rock Candy Mountain, White Pine Lookout, Fairy Tale Swamp, Rock Fort, Thistle Swamp and Camel Back Lookout.
