If you get bored of Carter Lake, you could also go to nearby Beaver Lake Flooding, and do take a hike on the Mosquito Alley Truck Trail. Carter Lake is great enough to spend more than a day at, Artesia Beach Trailer Park is a great local campground, and everyone close by loves skiing at Skyline Ski Slide. All through the warmest time of the year here at Carter Lake, high temperatures mostly get into the 80's while nighttime lows are generally in the 50's. During
the wintertime the highs are mostly in the 20's; nighttime lows during the wintertime for Carter Lake tend to be in the 0's.
A common amount of rain falls here at Carter Lake; September is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month of the year is February. This lake is so wonderful. If you came to camp Twin Lakes Campground is a brilliant place to do that, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Lame Duck Truck Trail. If only every place had

this much outdoors fun things, what a great earth it would be. A round of golf at nearby Birch Pointe Golf Club is a brilliant way to kill some time, and a pleasant nearby hotel is Quality Inn West Branch.
If you need a place to stay Super 8 West Branch is a perfect choice, and Fisher Lake is a nearby lake that you could have a look at.

Elni Lake
...ly a so-so fishing lake. Much of the reason for that is that the bottom is very shallow (can freeze to the bottom and kill major populations of fish). Near the swamp, it is sometimes only inches deep and most boats cannot navigate ''the cove'' in the NE corner of the lake. The bottom appears to have a loose mud texture and is, therefore, easily disturbed. But, there is more to that story...

It is a fun lake for story-telling because it has as its bottom several feet of sawdust, which when merged with the natural sand and dirt compounds finds itself much like quicksand. At the top of that bottom layer (sawdust, mostly) is the volatile, easily disturbed, mystery muck. Hence, there isn't a beach on Elni. If you wonder about the veracity of my ''quicksand'' reference, take a good, thick stick (we used young poplars stripped of leaves, etc., to push our raft around the lake) and stick it into the bottom (a little off shore, since the very edges of the lake are sandy). You may push it down several feet and never touch bottom. When you pull the stick out, you'll see where the quicksa...
