Why not take a refreshing hike along the Alligator Eye Trail, and there are some nice whitewater spots on Ontonagon River. Barb Lake gets a normal amount of yearly rainfall; August is the month that gets the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. This lake is located in the wonderful Gogebic Range.

| | camp here at Barb Lake is Moosehead Lake Campground. Man, is there a lot of entertaining things to do in the Gogebic Range. A delightful close by hotel is Black Bear Lodge; get yourself into a kayak and hit Presque Isle. For the period of the warm months, highs frequently are in the 70's at Barb Lake with night lows in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 10's while the cold winter nights at Barb Lake are in the-10's.

My aunt and uncle, Della and Deac Vilutis, owned the resort in the 50's and early 60's. I have many memories if my dad and I fishing on all those lakes. It was truly a beautiful area to grow up in....The lake is spring fed and is connected to Horsehead lake via river and also to North Crab lake and Crab lake. Walleye, large mouth bass, Muskellunge, Northern Pike and sunfish are native to this lake. The lake is 355 acres which host Bill's Island, a public campground that is accessable via boat/canoe. There is one state owned access to this lake on the north side. Many years ago, Armour Lake Resort had been built by my great, great uncle and then owned in the early 40's by my parents who are now both deceased. The resort has since been purchased as a private residence. As a child growing up we have some wonderful memories about this beautiful, spring fed lake. I miss it.... |
