Hampton Lake
Can the general public access the lake or is it private for Greenspire residents?...Hampton lake is a public lake in Portage south of Centre street, about a 1/3 of a mile east of US 131. It does not have a public access, I'm not even sure gas powered boats are allowed, but they're not needed because the lake is not very big. But it is spring fed and DNR stocked so it is very clean and very good fishing. I live in Greenspire Apartments which is partially on the lake and my roommate and I fish Hampton lake often. Row boats are available to rent in the office. ...
Bittersweet
13 miles away Bittersweet has enormous snow-making capacity and is consistently the first to open in SW Michigan. Their vertical is only 350 ft, but that's about 100 more than any other resort in SW Michigan. As noted, their lift system is impressive, particularly the high speed detachable quad, but lines can get a little long on late December weekends. Their terrain park has a good variety of boxes, jumps, etc. Very friendly people....Yea you guys rock i love the snow...Ahh yes, Bittersweet Ski Area... Michigan skiing at it's very best. The drops in these part of the country are not that impressive but I think Bittersweet makes the most of it. I do recommend this ski area....

Barlow Lake
17 miles away Bob Dibble again: looking for the Palmer family and the Parker family that used to live at Barlow lake back in the 1950's. If you are out there, please respond....I am 71 years old now and spent my 10 to 20 years old summers at Barlow lake. Visited there a couple of years ago after not being there for 40 years and found an old friend still living there - Al (Alfie) Lewis living at the old mill....
Timber Ridge
22 miles away It is not very big, but all of the employees are cool and you never have to wait in line to get on the lift. They sometimes seem to overestimate the amount of snow that they have also. I sometimes wonder if they actually measure the snowpiles that have been plowed in the parking lot instead of what is actually on the hill....
