Really wonderful skiing awaits you at Bittersweet, and since you're here, you could also take a look at delightful Upjohn Pond. A fine nearby hotel is Country Inn & Suites By Carlson Kalamazoo; whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Kalamazoo River. At Austin Lake through the summer highs are in the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 20's; overnight lows
in the 10's for Austin Lake.
This lake is so wonderful. If you need a spot to stay Lees Inn and Suites Kalamazoo is a good choice, and if you came to camp Oak Shores Resort Campground is a glorious place to do that. Not sufficient hours in a day to enjoy this spot. People from Kalamazoo-Portage love to come to Austin Lake; a round of golf at nearby Angels Crossing Golf Club is a great way to kill some time. West Lake is a nearby lake that you could check out,

and camping at Coldbrook County Park is always a great experience.
The amount of rain that falls at Austin Lake is close to the national average; during September this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February.

Hampton Lake
Can the general public access the lake or is it private for Greenspire residents?...Hampton lake is a public lake in Portage south of Centre street, about a 1/3 of a mile east of US 131.  It does not have a public access, I'm not even sure gas powered boats are allowed, but they're not needed because the lake is not very big.  But it is spring fed and DNR stocked so it is very clean and very good fishing.  I live in Greenspire Apartments which is partially on the lake and my roommate and I fish Hampton lake often. Row boats are available to rent in the office. ...

Bittersweet
18 miles away
Bittersweet has enormous snow-making capacity and is consistently the first to open in SW Michigan. Their vertical is only 350 ft, but that's about 100 more than any other resort in SW Michigan. As noted, their lift system is impressive, particularly the high speed detachable quad, but lines can get a little long on late December weekends. Their terrain park has a good variety of boxes, jumps, etc. Very friendly people....Yea you guys rock i love the snow...Ahh yes, Bittersweet Ski Area... Michigan skiing at it's very best. The drops in these part of the country are not that impressive but I think Bittersweet makes the most of it. I do recommend this ski area....

Omena Lake
19 miles away
Beautiful spring fed lake, clean and quiet....

Timber Ridge
24 miles away
It is not very big, but all of the employees are cool and you never have to wait in line to get on the lift. They sometimes seem to overestimate the amount of snow that they have also. I sometimes wonder if they actually measure the snowpiles that have been plowed in the parking lot instead of what is actually on the hill....

Swiss Valley
24 miles away
3 PHOTOS
Swiss Valley is a great place to ski or snowboard, dedicated to keeping the terrain interesting and excellently groomed. Snowmaking and deicated staff also provide the best kept terrain parks in southwest Michigan. The facilities offer a full service restaurant with food, spirits and live enteratinment most weekends, a cafeteria, group gathering areas and a separate learning area.
Swiss Valley also has very affordable learn to ski and snowboard programs for the entire family....

it is pretty good...
