     You'll need more than a day to explore everything Ames Lake has to offer, you can camp at Fox River Campground; Comfort Inn Newberry is a good site to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. You'll find a gorgeous lake called Sleeper Lake near Ames Lake. From a precipitation point of view Ames Lake is a quite typical spot; the wettest month of the year is frequently September, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month of the year is February. There's  
   so much to do here at Ames Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Township Campground is a perfect place for that, and if you're here, you could also check out charming Bluegill Lake.
At Ames Lake all through the months of summer highs are in the 70's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Ames Lake fall into the 10's.

Most sites are grassy and have a mix of sun and shade and are mostly level with some having pads for the large RV's; there are pull throughs too.  We welcome big rigs, tents and anything inbetween!  We have some excellent spots to situate a group camping atmosphere or family reunion.  If you are a bird watcher, we are 3 miles south of Seney National Wildlife Refuge and offer canoe/kayak rentals through the refuge. Pets are welcomed with courtesy rules enforced.  Reservations are welcomed...
