There's some exciting stuff to distinguish at Hamilton Pond Dam in the neighborhood of Lake Wood, and Canoe Point is in the neighborhood and always fine to explore. This lake is so wonderful. If the weather is glorious here at Lake Wood, you can go for a hike along the Conners Nubble Trail; you can run the rapids of Union River. Lake Wood sees pretty high levels of precipitation; November is the wettest month with most rain, and August on the other hand is the
driest. While you're here at Lake Wood you can take a hike along the McFarland Hill Trail, and if you're looking for a beach close by we recommend Marlboro Beach.
This lake is so wonderful. Nothing beats kicking back at Lamoine Beach. There's so much to do here at Lake Wood that you need to camp here for a while, Camp Store is a fine place for that. The North Ridge Trail is a good hiking trail in the neighborhood of Lake Wood, and if you need a place to

stay Sea Breeze Motel is a nice choice. Dry warm beds await you at Highbrook Motel, and there are other locations here than Lake Wood, for example Breakneck Ponds.
Summer brings highs in the 70's to Lake Wood, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 30's; after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Lake Wood sink into the 10's. Brewer Mountain can be distinguished from Lake Wood; a wooded vicinity close by is Eno Pines.
This lake is so wonderful. Acadia National Park is one of the destinations near Lake Wood that are fine to go to, and playing golf is lots of fun at Bar Harbor Golf Course. A great place for whitewater paddling in close proximity to Lake Wood is Branch Lake Stream; getting to Breakneck Brook from Lake Wood is uncomplicated. If only every place had this much outdoors enjoyable things, what a great world it would be. The Ovens is a great site to pop by close by, and not far from Lake Wood you'll locate Fawn Pond which is a gorgeous lake.
And if that's not enough, there's a heap more to do near Lake Wood. Swamps are attention-grabbing spots and The Heath in close proximity to Lake Wood is no exception, and if you came to camp Mt Desert Campground is a nice place to do that.

Conners Nubble Trail
My wife and I and our two children (including son Conor, of course) hiked up Connor's Nubble in August, 2008.  The Acadia National Park Brochure/Map identifies this little mountain as ''Connor's Nubble'' while the trail sign itself goes with ''Conner's Nubble.''  We hiked up Connor's Nubble from the south, off of the carriage road/bike trail that runs south along the west side of Eagle Lake.  The hiking trail itself from the south approach is short, on the order of 1/3 mile.  It's pretty steep, but not too challenging given its brevity.  Once on top, the hiker is rewarded with sweeping views in all directions.  The view of Eagle Lake is terrific, as is the gander at Cadillac Mountain.  This is a very rewarding hike for such a short trail, and combined with a bike ride circumnavigating Eagle Lake, it makes for a terrific 3-hour jaunt....

Sargent Mountain Trail
... Bar Harbor itself presented themselves for almost the entire 45 minutes. At about 5/10 of a mile the trail leveled off temporarily on a large, open ridge, giving me a much needed breather before the final 0. 15 mile push to the top.

On top, Ithe hiker will discover a very large, wide open rocky summit with commanding views in all directions. To date, this is the best view I've had in Acadia National Park. The vista over Bar Harbor is remarkable, with the group of the four Porcupine Islands being promiment. The northern portion of Eagle Lake also presents itself nicely, as does the northern reaches of Somes Sound amd the Atantic Ocean to the north. The great bulks of Cadillac Mountain and Pemetic Mountain dominate the views to the east. The view from Sargent also made it easy to spot the next three peaks on my day's hike; Gilmore, Parkman and Bald. In fact, I was able to knock off these three bare-topped, wonderful little peaks and get back to my bike in only 2. 4 miles of hiking.

I would highly recommend Sargent Mountain. There are several approaches to this mountain (...

Blackwoods Campground
I have been camping there for 20 years, and it is the best campground I have ever seen. Everything is wonderful, and the bugs aren't even that bad....

Beech Mountain West Ridge Trail
... approach to Beech Mountain from the West Ridge Trail is steep, but short. The trailhead is off of an un-named dead-end dirt road that runs north off of Lavery Spring Road, another dirt road that terminates at the lower east shore of Long Pond.

The trail descends immediately from the little dirt road cul-de-sac to a little stream. After this brief 50-yard descent, it's all uphill, and steep to boot. The hiker is rewarded with views towards Long pond below to the west and Mansell Mountain beyond as he/she ascends. The views tend to get better as you go higher (imagine that?), although the trail alternates between wooded and fairly open rock, meaning that the good views are sporadic.

After 6/10 of a mile you'll come to a trail intersection. The Beach Mountain Loop trail heads left (north) towards the parking area off of Beech Hill Road. You'll want to go to the right/straight, where you can make the final 1/10 of a mile push to the summit of Beech.

The last 1/10 of a mile is pretty easy going, compared to the ascent to this point. With about 100 yards to go you'll ...

White Birches Campground
We went there in September, but, it seemed like an ideal, quiet place for hikers who may want to get off the beaten track on a very commercial island. The showers were clean, the sites were clean and it was not the most expensive. Forewarned, the shuttle bus doesn't go there, price to pay for remoteness....
