From a rain point of view West Shirley Bog is a relatively typical location; most of the rain falls throughout July while February is usually the driest month. There are some fine whitewater spots on Piscataquis River - East Branch, and Northern Pride Lodge and Campground is a good local campground. This lake is so wonderful. Take a little journey to Big Bennett Brook if you're here at West Shirley       Bog, and West Shirley Bog is a magnificent site to visit for more than one day, Casey's Spencer Bay Campground is a magnificent site to camp nearby. After a long day outdoors Lodge at Moosehead Lake is a good site to spend a night or two, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Intake Trail. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the enjoyable things at West Shirley Bog. If you need a place to stay Bingham Motor Inn is a great choice. Whitewater                  paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Piscataquis River - West Branch, and do take a hike on the Big Squaw Mountain Trail. For the period of the summertime here at West Shirley Bog, high temperatures ordinarily reach the 70's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 50's.
