An interesting thing to have a look at right next door to Turner Pond is Colby Mills Dam, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Sheepscot River. temperatures at Turner Pond dipping down into the 10's through winter nights. James Pond is a good lake next to Turner Pond, and there is a good hiking trail nearby called the Hockomock Nature Trail. This lake is so wonderful.
Holiday Inn WATERVILLE is a good spot to get some rest, and camping is available at Pine Ridge Campgrounds. If only every site had this much outdoors entertaining things, what a great globe it would be. While you're here at Turner
Pond you will meet lots of folks from nearby Augusta-Waterville, and there's some flowing water nearby, Lovejoy Stream is a stream you can have a look at during your stay.

Eaton Mountain
 | 26 miles away 3 PHOTOS Eaton Mountain provides affordable and convenient skiing, snowboarding, and snowtubing to the greater Waterville/Skowhegan area. The mountain boasts a suprising variety of terrain for a compact ski area including glades, challenging steeps, and classic New England style trails. Most of the area is covered with snowmaking and is lit for nightskiiing. Equipment rentals and lessons are available. The base lodge has a snackbar and provides a place to warm up by the wood stove and meet friends. The ski area has new owners as of November 2008 and will not be operating for the 2008-09 ski season. The new owners will be taking the time to make improvements and prepare for a grand reopening in the fall of 2009. Immediate improvements are planned to include an all new snowtubing facility and widening of the Moose slope for a new terrain park. The ski area is located on Lambert Road, just off Route 2 between Skowhegan and Canaan.... |
