...onprofit educational institution established in 1962 and located on a 400-acre peninsula in Wiscasset, Maine. We are dedicated to helping people grow individually and in community with others by providing educational experiences that foster an understanding and appreciation of the natural world.
Our leaders challenge participants both physically and intellectually with activities that build self confidence, a sense of community, and a greater awareness of the inter relatedness of the world around us. Since 2002, The Chewonki Foundation has purchased the campground land, built new privies, renovated existing buildings, rewired sites, and revegetated many areas of erosion. We will continue revegetation efforts and to explore energy alternatives for the campground, as well as making it as green a campground as possible. We have recently received teaching equipment for basic fly-fishing programs and will continue to work with volunteers to promote fly-fishing and river conservation. Future projects may include primitive cabins and a shale boat launch. We welcome your thoughts and sug...

Ocean wood Campground
19 miles away
I have been camping at Oceanwood for the last 3 or 4 years. It is by far the best ocean camping you can find in Maine by far. Spacious sites, peace and quiet, the ocean view is just plain beautiful. If you want a true Maine ocean camping experience, this is the spot....theres no place like it, that I know of. My wife and I first stayed at ocean wood over ten years ago. A friend told us about it. we are avid campers and have camped all over the U.S.A. we try to avoid campgrounds usually opting for back country camping because with the r.v. craze of late so many campgrounds have estentialy become glorified parking lots. this is not the case at ocean wood. the sites give a good sense of privacy and coexist with the natural surroundings almost seemlessly. ocean front sites are spectacular and give an opportiunity to experience maines downeast coast so personaly it becomes a part of you. We try to go each year and realy miss the place between visits. The owner and staff make you feel like a part of the family and we have never had a regret or even a hint of a problem. I wont go into descriptions of the natural beauty of the place because it is truly beyond that. if you know downeast maine, this is it. if you dont, ocean wood is the definition. ...

Eaton Mountain provides affordable and convenient skiing, snowboarding, and snowtubing to the greater Waterville/Skowhegan area. The mountain boasts a suprising variety of terrain for a compact ski area including glades, challenging steeps, and classic New England style trails. Most of the area is covered with snowmaking and is lit for nightskiiing. Equipment rentals and lessons are available. The base lodge has a snackbar and provides a place to warm up by the wood stove and meet friends.
The ski area has new owners as of November 2008 and will not be operating for the 2008-09 ski season. The new owners will be taking the time to make improvements and prepare for a grand reopening in the fall of 2009. Immediate improvements are planned to include an all new snowtubing facility and widening of the Moose slope for a new terrain park.
The ski area is located on Lambert Road, just off Route 2 between Skowhegan and Canaan....
