Since 2002, The Chewonki Foundation has purchased the campground land, built new privies, renovated existing buildings, rewired sites, and revegetated many areas of erosion. We will continue revegetation efforts and to explore energy alternatives for the campground, as well as making it as green a campground as possible. We have recently received teaching equipment for basic fly-fishing programs and will continue to work with volunteers to promote fly-fishing and river conservation. Eaton Mountain
 | 20 miles away 3 PHOTOS Eaton Mountain provides affordable and convenient skiing, snowboarding, and snowtubing to the greater Waterville/Skowhegan area. The mountain boasts a suprising variety of terrain for a compact ski area including glades, challenging steeps, and classic New England style trails. Most of the area is covered with snowmaking and is lit for nightskiiing. Equipment rentals and lessons are available. The base lodge has a snackbar and provides a place to warm up by the wood stove and meet friends. The ski area has new owners as of November 2008 and will not be operating for the 2008-09 ski season. The new owners will be taking the time to make improvements and prepare for a grand reopening in the fall of 2009. Immediate improvements are planned to include an all new snowtubing facility and widening of the Moose slope for a new terrain park. The ski area is located on Lambert Road, just off Route 2 between Skowhegan and Canaan.... |
