This is a magnificent area for folks who like lakes. Squankin Pond is a lake close by, and Ledge Hill can be made out from South Pond. A brilliant nearby hotel is Lodge at Moosehead Lake; perfect hiking is available along the Gulf Hagas Trail. If you like skiing, you're in luck; Big Squaw is next to South Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Bear Pond Brook is a scenic stream that is worth taking a look at, and       a brilliant place for whitewater paddling is Big Wilson Stream. Lakes are pleasant; Meadow Pond is a lake that's near South Pond, and there's great hiking along the Number Four Mountain Trail. So many enjoyable things next to South Pond, completely phenomenal. Interesting geology is available here; Bear Pond Ledge is next to South Pond, and South Pond is brilliant enough to spend more than a day at, Balsam woods Campground is a brilliant local campground.                  Summer brings highs in the 70's to South Pond; the night is rather chillier of course, mostly in the 50's. During the wintertime highs are generally in the 20's with winter lows in the-10's overnight here at South Pond. Hiking is a popular thing to do around South Pond; Intake Trail is a good local trail, and a swamp like Doughty Bog next to South Pond has lots of exciting things to see. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at South Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Wildwood Shores Campground is a tremendous spot for that, and Little Wilson Falls is always fun to check out.
