    Do stop by Shirley Pond while you're in this part of Maine. From a precipitation point of view Shirley Pond is a reasonably typical spot; the month with most of the rain is July, and February is when it's the driest. If you need a place to stay Bingham Motor Inn is a fine choice, and a tremendous swamp in close proximity to Shirley Pond is East Shirley Bog. This lake is so wonderful. There's pleasant hiking along the Number Four Mountain Trail; Shirley Pond  
   Dam is a stunning location, definitely worth checking out.
For the duration of the warm months at Shirley Pond temperatures are typically in the 70's, and the night is rather colder of course, typically in the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 20's, and overnight lows in the-10's for Shirley Pond. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave Shirley Pond without first going for a hike along the Big Squaw Mountain Trail, and if you've had
 
               enough of Shirley Pond, Bear Pond is close by. Dry warm beds await you at Lodge at Moosehead Lake, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Piscataquis River - East Branch.
So many exciting things to do at Shirley Pond, so little time. There are some fine whitewater spots on Piscataquis River - West Branch, and you can stay the night at Northern Pride Lodge and Campground. There are nice spots to look at along the Intake Trail; you're probably into lakes, Bunker Ponds is one of those nearby.
It's a good idea to visit Dennin Brook, it's in the neighborhood of Shirley Pond. There's so much to do here at Shirley Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Casey's Spencer Bay Campground is a brilliant site for that.
