A visit to Second Pond is always a good idea. You definitely have to like Second Pond. The sight of Stover Hill from Second Pond is beautiful, and whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Narramissic River. This lake is so wonderful. If you like swamps, you're in luck, Mill Stream Meadow is right close by; going for a hike on the Blue Hill Trail is always a good adventure. Lakes are such calm places, why not stop at Third Pond

From a rain point of view Second Pond is a reasonably typical site; the month of November is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is February. If you come at the right time of year, Blue Hill Falls offers some magnificent whitewater; there are great places to discover along the Bald Mountain Trail. Lodge is a delightful location to spend a night or two. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Second Pond has to offer, you can camp at Sunshine Campground. Don't leave Second Pond without first going for a hike along
the Old Cove Trail. You'll hit upon a charming lake called Fourth Pond near Second Pond, and Birchhead Shore is a stunning beach to go to. This lake is so wonderful. Visit Carleton Stream if you're here at Second Pond; if you need
a place to stay Best Western Fort Knox Inn is a fine choice. All through the days of summer highs here at Second Pond get into the 70's while overnight lows are ordinarily in the 50's. High temperatures throughout the wintertime are normally in the 20's, and nighttime lows in the 0's for Second Pond.

 | 19 miles away We went there in September, but, it seemed like an ideal, quiet place for hikers who may want to get off the beaten track on a very commercial island. The showers were clean, the sites were clean and it was not the most expensive. Forewarned, the shuttle bus doesn't go there, price to pay for remoteness.... |
