Do check out Horseshoe Pond next to Poverty Pond, it's a stunning lake, and Poverty Pond is fine enough to spend more than a day at, Wildwood Shores Campground is a fine local campground. This lake is so wonderful. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Poverty Pond; Gulf Hagas Trail is a good local trail,       and the slopes of Big Squaw are so inviting nobody can resist. For the duration of the days of summer at Poverty Pond highs are regularly in the 70's, and the overnight is a bit cooler of course, typically in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 20's with temperatures at Poverty Pond dipping down into the-10's through winter nights. Now, you may assume that's a load but there's even more amusing stuff to do here at Poverty Pond. The peak of Davis                  Mountain can be spotted from Poverty Pond, and for you golfers we recommend close by Piscataquis Country Club. The Northwest Ridge Road offers hiking at its best; there are swamps here too, Fourth Pond Bog is in the neighborhood. This lake is so wonderful. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Number Four Mountain Trail, and if you don’t have a problem getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Big Wilson Stream. From a precipitation point of view Poverty Pond is a reasonably normal location; during the month of July you get the most rain around here, and February on the other hand is the driest.
