Going for a hike on the Lead Mountain Trail is always a great adventure, and at Nicatous Lake Dam close to Porter Pond there are some out of the ordinary things to see. Porter Pond gets much water; during the month of November you get the most rain around here, and February on the other hand is the driest. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Porter Pond has to offer, you can camp at Maple Grove Campground, and       whitewater paddling is nice on Nicatous Stream. A great nearby hotel is White Birches Country Club. This is a good area for people who like lakes. Trueworthy Pond is a lake close by, and get dripping wet paddling on Passadumkeag River. All through the summer here at Porter Pond, high temperatures typically reach the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 20's with temperatures at Porter Pond dipping                  down into the 0's through winter nights. Man, is there loads of exciting things to do next to Porter Pond. Stay the night at Cold Spring Campground. Lakes are wonderful; Lower Pistol Lake is a lake that's close to Porter Pond. This lake is so wonderful.
