     Dollar Pond is a good lake close to Pickerel Pond, and there are some great whitewater spots on Union River - West Branch. University Inn Academic Suites is a wonderful place to get some rest, and lots of people from Bangor come here. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Pickerel Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Red Barn RV Park is a tremendous site for that, and from Pickerel Pond you obtain a splendid sight of Bear Den Hill.  
   There is a great hiking trail right next door to Pickerel Pond called the Peaked Mountain Trail, and a quick tour to Wiley Brook is definitely a good idea.
The Old Gold Mine Trail is a wonderful hiking trail in close proximity to Pickerel Pond; there are other sites here than Pickerel Pond, for example Crocker Pond. This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Sunkhaze Stream offers some pleasant whitewater, and you can stay the night
 
               at Parks Pond Campground.
During the warmest time of the year here at Pickerel Pond, high temperatures usually reach the 70's with overnight lows in the 50's. Highs during the winter are regularly in the 20's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Pickerel Pond temperatures descend to the 0's. Life's too short to enjoy all the fun things near Pickerel Pond. Going for a hike on the Eagle Lake Trail is always a good adventure; after a long day outdoors Best Western Black Bear Inn & Conference Center is a delightful spot to spend a night or two. All the water falling down from the sky makes Pickerel Pond a wet spot; the month of November is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest of the months is February.
