If you need a location to stay Bar Harbor Inn is a fine choice, and Peaked Mountain Pond is good enough to spend more than a day at, Sunkhaze Campground is a good local campground. High temperatures at Peaked Mountain Pond through the summer are in the 70's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. Clifford Lake
 | 16 miles away Clifford Lake is very isolated . You can get their via route 9 or Route 1 in Princeton. I would recommend a recent typo map and asking plenty of guestions from the locals. There is a small camping area. My last trip there (92) I had a truck and it was needed to traverse one road that comes to mind. The fishing was excellent ( pickerel averaged 20 in.) .
