Get yourself into a kayak and hit Narramissic River, and not far from Mud Pond you acquire some great water scenery at Thurston Pond Dam. Mud       Pond is perfect enough to spend more than a day at, Whispering Pines Campground is a perfect local campground, and there is a perfect hiking trail nearby called the Old Gold Mine Trail. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a location to stay Best Western Fort Knox Inn is a tremendous choice, and a pretty lake like Thurston Pond is a wonderful location to have a look at. Very picturesque scenery and good skiing is what you get at New Hermon Mountain, and                  from Mud Pond you obtain a nice panorama of Orcutt Mountain. And if that's not sufficient, there's loads more to do in the neighborhood of Mud Pond. Swamps like McGann Bog in the vicinity of Mud Pond make for glorious places to explore, and if you come at the right time of year, Penobscot River offers some nice whitewater. Mud Pond gets a typical amount of precipitation; of all the months in a year November is the one with the most rain while February is commonly the driest month. Summertime at Mud Pond comes with high temperatures in the 70's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Highs during the wintertime are frequently in the 20's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Mud Pond fall into the 0's.
