All through the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 50's. Highs through the winter are typically in the 20's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Mud Pond sink into the-10's.       Wilde Pines Campground is a splendid local campground, and there is a good hiking trail nearby called the Sweets Trail. While you're here at Mud Pond, you could also stop by beautiful Half Moon Pond, and get covered with water paddling on Mattawamkeag River - West Branch. If you want a good time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Mud Pond. The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Bigrock, and the Pierce Tote Road is a wonderful                  hiking trail close by. A glorious nearby hotel is Shiretown Motor Inn; if the weather is magnificent, you can go for a hike along the Kennedy Tote Road. From a rainfall point of view Mud Pond is a quite typical location; all through the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is February.
