Good hiking is available along the Kennedy Tote Road, and Mattawamkeag River - West Branch has a great whitewater paddling spot close by. Scottish Inns Houlton is a tremendous place to get some rest, and in case you don’t have a problem getting soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on Mattawamkeag River - East Branch. This lake is so wonderful. The Sweets Trail offers hiking at its best; great skiing awaits       you at Bigrock. It's a good idea to stop by Collis Brook, it's in the vicinity of Mud Pond, and if you came to camp Bear Mountain Lodge is a delightful location to do that. This lake is so wonderful. Life's too short to enjoy all the exciting stuff in the vicinity of Mud Pond. A brilliant nearby hotel is Shiretown Motor Inn, and camping at Wilde Pines Campground is always a glorious experience. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Mud Pond; Pierce                  Tote Road is a delightful local trail, obviously you could also stop at Timoney Lake while you're here; it's not far at all. Through the months of summer at Mud Pond temperatures are usually in the 70's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Mud Pond descend into the-10's.
