This lake is so wonderful. Some of the water nearby flows, like Bald Mountain Brook, and going for a hike on the Round Trail is always a fine adventure. If you come at the right time of year, Fish River offers       some delightful whitewater; the Fox Brook Trail is a perfect hiking trail close by. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Machias River, and close by you hit upon the Island Pond Trail which is a great hiking trail. Summertime highs at Mud Pond ordinarily tend to be in the 70's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's.
