This lake is so wonderful. You can run the rapids of Mattawamkeag River - East Branch in close proximity to Mud Pond, and going for a hike on the Pierce Tote Road is always a great adventure. The warmest time of the year at Mud Pond comes with high temperatures in the 70's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 50's. For the duration of the       winter highs are in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the-10's to Mud Pond. That right there is loads already, but it carries on; Mud Pond has it all. Get your heart pumping on the tremendous whitewater of Mattawamkeag River - West Branch; if you like swamps you're in luck, Soucier Bog is right nearby. A round of golf at nearby VA Jo WA Golf Club Walker is a good way to kill some time; nearby you hit upon the Kennedy Tote Road which is a great hiking                  trail. You could also explore Upper Mattawamkeag Lake while you're here at Mud Pond; it's close by; needless to say Little Sly Brook is a beautiful stream that is worth visiting. This lake is so wonderful. Loon Ledge is a good spot to discover. There's so much to do here at Mud Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Birch Point Lodge Campgrounds is a brilliant location for that. A lake close by is Mattawamkeag Lake, and Mud Pond is perfect enough to spend more than a day at, Bear Mountain Lodge is a perfect local campground.
