Hiking along the Pierce Tote Road is perfect fun; Shiretown Motor Inn is a great site to get some rest. A pleasant location for whitewater paddling in the vicinity of Mud Lake is Mattawamkeag River - East Branch, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always go to nearby Timoney Lake. The slopes of Bigrock are so inviting nobody can resist; of course, this is a perfect region for folks       who like lakes, Skitacook Lake is a lake close at hand. Mattawamkeag River - West Branch is a wonderful whitewater spot near Mud Lake; Birch Point Lodge Campgrounds is a good campground nearby. If only every spot had this much outdoors exciting things, what a great earth it would be. Going for a hike along the Potters Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area; Mud Lake is a magnificent place to visit for more than one day, My Brothers Place                  is a magnificent place to camp nearby. Center Line Brook flows through this vicinity, and Mud Lake is right by the Kennedy Tote Road. This lake is so wonderful. At Mud Lake you can make out Byron Mountain, and if you need a place to stay Scottish Inns Houlton is a great choice. For the duration of the summertime months highs here at Mud Lake reach the 70's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are generally in the 20's, and night lows in the 0's for Mud Lake.
