There are good sites to explore along the Potters Trail, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Mattawamkeag River - East Branch. After a long day outdoors Scottish Inns Houlton is a splendid site to spend a night or two; why not camp at Birch Point Lodge Campgrounds if you're here at Mud Lake. Skiing at Bigrock is one of those things you just have to do, and why not visit close by Center Line Brook since you're here at Mud       Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Pierce Tote Road is always a pleasant adventure, and if you come at the right time of year, Mattawamkeag River - West Branch offers some splendid whitewater. And that's not all you can do here at Mud Lake. The peak of Byron Mountain can be observed from Mud Lake, and you're almost certainly addicted to lakes, Skitacook Lake is one of those nearby. Near Mud Lake you hit upon the Kennedy Tote Road                  which is a good hiking trail, and My Brothers Place is a pleasant local campground. Mud Lake is a good place of normal rainfall; through July this area sees the most rain; February is the month with the least moisture. This lake is so wonderful. Lakes are pleasant; Mud Pond is a lake that's in close proximity to Mud Lake; dry warm beds await you at Shiretown Motor Inn. Throughout the summer months highs here at Mud Lake reach the 70's. During the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 50's.
