    The beauty of McWain Pond is reason enough to stop by. Stay the night at Vacationland Campground, and you're possibly hooked on lakes, Bog Pond is one of those close by. The Albany Notch Trail offers hiking at its best, and why not a little side trip to McIntire Brook. Dry warm beds await you at Pleasant Mountain Inn, and obviously, this is a fine neighborhood for folks who like lakes, Keoka Lake is a lake around here.

   skiing, you're in luck; Shawnee Peak is near McWain Pond; McWain Pond is a delightful place to visit for more than one day, Papoose Pond Camping Resort is a delightful place to camp nearby. Summer brings highs in the 70's to McWain Pond, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the-10's to McWain Pond. Don't leave McWain Pond without first going for a hike along the Albany  
               Brook Trail, and if you need a place to stay The Bethel Inn Resort is a great choice.
The amount of rainfall that falls at McWain Pond is close to the national average; August is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is February. This lake is so wonderful. There's fine hiking along the Albany Mountain Trail; Baker Hill is a peak you can make out from McWain Pond.
And that's not all you can do here at McWain Pond. If you come at the right time of year, Crooked River offers some wonderful whitewater, and the skiing at Mount Abram is glorious.

My sister and I put in just below eddes falls this summer and kayaked all the way to sebago lake. Nice trip....My friend Dan and I ran part of this section last summer. Instead of putting in at Scribner's Mill, we launched from Edes Falls, just above the Rapids. It was a good inroduction to whitewater. Dan flipped within the first five minutes, but being that the water is relatively shallow, he did little more than get wet on a hot summers day. The Route 302 bridge is a logical pull out spot. There is a large mass of debris blocking passage of the river there. The only tricky part is that the walls of the riverband are steep and slippery, so it helps to have someone with you for the portage....
