McGowan Lake is a lake worth visiting. The annual rain here at McGowan Lake is about average; the wettest month of the year is generally August, that's the one that rains the most while February is regularly the driest month. Take a little visit to Twentymile Brook since you're here at McGowan Lake, and Fish River is a glorious whitewater spot close by. A nice close by hotel is Katahdin Inn, and there is a nice hiking trail nearby called the Fox Brook Trail.

| | This lake is so wonderful. Umcolcus Sporting Camps is a great local campground; close by you stumble on the Mooseleuk Tote Road which is a great hiking trail. Summer brings highs in the 70's to McGowan Lake while night lows are frequently in the 50's. Highs during the wintertime are typically in the 10's with winter lows in the-10's overnight here at McGowan Lake. So many entertaining things to do at McGowan Lake, so little time. you can always go whitewater paddling on Machias River. McGowan Lake is a tremendous place to visit for more than one day, Homestead Lodge is a tremendous place to camp nearby, and the Round Trail is a nice hiking trail close by.
