If you fancy a little side trip, try Black Rock, and Checkly Point is close by and always nice to go to. This lake is so wonderful. For you golfers we recommend close by Pleasant Hill Golf Course, and a magnificent beach close by is Western Beach. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Royal River; a lake close by is Mill Brook.       A good deal of rain falls at Massacre Pond; throughout November this area sees the most rain while August is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Camping is available at Bayley's Camping Resort, and there are some nice whitewater spots on Chandler Brook. All the outdoors amusing things in close proximity to Massacre Pond will keep you coming back again and again. A good nearby hotel is Lighthouse Inn at Pine Point, and Massacre Pond is not the                  only place close by, Rye Pond is a close by lake. Whohoo, so much fun stuff in one place! Massacre Pond is unbeatable! Massacre Pond is not far at all from Portland-South Portland, and Lost Valley has perfect slopes and a friendly staff. The warmest time of the year at Massacre Pond arrives with high temperatures in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's with temperatures at Massacre Pond dipping down into the 0's through winter nights. This lake is so wonderful.
