Paddling on Sandy River is so much fun, and a great place to camp here at Long Pond is Camp Laurel. Eaton Mountain is a very popular ski area in the vicinity, and if you need a spot to stay Winthrop Motel is a pleasant choice. Long Pond is right by the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. | | Great Pond Campground is a fine local campground. Summertime at Long Pond comes with high temperatures in the 70's, and the night is a little colder of course, commonly in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's; overnight lows in the 0's for Long Pond. Don't forget to take a perfect little trip to Ingham Stream, and Pinewold Point is not far at all. makes Long Pond a wet place; November is when you get the most rain here while February is mostly the driest month.

Eaton Mountain
 | 18 miles away 3 PHOTOS Eaton Mountain provides affordable and convenient skiing, snowboarding, and snowtubing to the greater Waterville/Skowhegan area. The mountain boasts a suprising variety of terrain for a compact ski area including glades, challenging steeps, and classic New England style trails. Most of the area is covered with snowmaking and is lit for nightskiiing. Equipment rentals and lessons are available. The base lodge has a snackbar and provides a place to warm up by the wood stove and meet friends. The ski area has new owners as of November 2008 and will not be operating for the 2008-09 ski season. The new owners will be taking the time to make improvements and prepare for a grand reopening in the fall of 2009. Immediate improvements are planned to include an all new snowtubing facility and widening of the Moose slope for a new terrain park.
